A backpackable robot is a compact, lightweight robotic device designed to be easily carried by a single person, often in a backpack or similar pack. These robots are commonly used by military, law enforcement, and emergency responders for tasks like reconnaissance, explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), and search and rescue. Their portability allows for quick deployment in challenging or hazardous environments, and they typically offer capabilities like remote manipulation, mobility over rough terrain, and sometimes even stair-climbing.

An EOD robot is a remote-controlled device used by bomb disposal teams to safely detect and dispose of explosives, reducing risk to human operators. Equipped with cameras, sensors, and robotic arms, it enables precise manipulation and operates in hazardous areas.
