Avon M53A1 Gas Mask – Tactical Military APR – One Mask, All Missions
Certified to US Military Specification PR EA-M-10006. Ideal for military and special forces.
Capable of operating in both negative and positive pressure modes, the M53A1 can serve as an air purifying respirator (APR), powered-air purifying respirator (PAPR), self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), closed-circuit breathing apparatus (CCBA), and as a combination SCBA and PAPR systems.
The M53A1 protective mask was developed to mitigate the unique military and domestic threats encountered on the modern battlefield, in the global war on terrorism, and during CBRN operations worldwide.
As the first dual US DOD protective mask; the Avon Protection M53A1 gas mask is certified to MIL-SPEC PR EA-M-10034 and NIOSH CBRN APR. The contract administered by JPM-P under contract number W911SR19D0005 is an active contract vehicle to request systems.

Sizing & Fit
Please note that for proper mask fit, faces must be clean shaven. Facial hair, sideburns, bangs, and headwear may prevent a protective facepiece from forming and/or maintaining a tight-fitting seal on someone’s face. It is recommended that the user be clean shaven and/or have hair pulled back for sizing and using the respirator to ensure an appropriate seal.
To confirm you have selected the correct size, you should perform a negative pressure test. This test involves putting the mask on your face, exhaling, then blocking the inhalation valve and taking a deep breath. For some masks you will need to block both inhalation valves before taking a breath. The mask should collapse onto the face. If you experience a tight seal to your face, then the mask has the right fit.

The M53/FM53 series gas mask, derived from the M50, is custom-designed to fulfill the distinctive needs of Special Operations Forces (SOF) operators. The M53A1 represents an enhanced single filter port version of the M53.
The Avon M53A1 protective mask, an iteration of the SOF M53 mask, is a versatile system featuring three modes of respiration support (air-purifying respirator (APR), powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR), and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA)) to deliver clean air in CBRN and noxious environments. While the M53A1 does not replace the M50 or M51, it will be deployed to specialized units with specific requirements for CBRND ground protection, providing them with the enhanced capabilities of the M53A1.
Meanwhile, the M54/FM54 series boasts dual 40mm ports across all models, featuring improved fire and chemical resistance while maintaining the overall build consistency with the M53.
